Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival
The Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival is a representative festival held annually in Kitakyushu City, Kita-Kyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. It typically takes place over two days on the first Saturday and Sunday of August.
Overview: The festival traces its origins back to “Matsuri Kitakyushu,” organized by the Kitakyushu Junior Chamber of Commerce since 1973, coinciding with the establishment of Kitakyushu City and the 10th anniversary of becoming a designated city. In 1988, commemorating the 25th anniversary of cityhood and designation as a designated city, the “Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival” was inaugurated.
With over 1.5 million attendees each year coming from within the city and beyond, the festival is now managed by the “Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival Promotion Association,” consisting of Kitakyushu City, Kitakyushu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kitakyushu Junior Chamber of Commerce, among others. The festival has an annual theme, with the 2023 theme being “Smiles Bloom – A Festival Overflowing with Citizens’ Hope.” The total budget for the festival is around 100 million yen, primarily funded by sponsorship contributions from businesses and citizens.
