Yabakei Gorge, Ao-no-domon Nemophila 2024
The Blue Dome, a representative attraction in the Yabakei Gorge, which is a prominent tourist destination in Japan, is adorned with vibrant blue nemophila flowers from mid-April to early May, coinciding with the Golden Week holiday.
This initiative was launched in 2012 by local residents who shared a commitment to the “blue” theme of the Blue Dome in Yabakei. During the period from mid-April to early May (Golden Week), the mountainside across the Yabakei River from the Blue Dome is covered with a carpet of blooming blue nemophila flowers. The project uses a variety called “Insignis Blue,” known for its slightly larger size. Throughout this period, the “Zenkai Teahouse,” a local sweet shop, offers a limited edition “Nemophila Soft” for sale.
