Yamadera Temple Autumn leaves When 2024

The stunning landscape features dense foliage covering the precipitous cliffs. The mountain gate, believed to have been constructed during the Kamakura period, serves as the trailhead, and a steep slope with thick, ancient trees leads to the Okunoin, where the Daibutsu Hall is located, spanning over 800 stone steps. The entire mountain temple, adorned with peculiar rocks and stones, is enveloped in maple trees, creating an extraordinary panorama. The vibrant autumn foliage of the Okuyamadera Yusenkyo and the Momijikawa Valley is also magnificent. From late October to early November, the temple holds illumination events, and between 18:00 and 21:00 during this period, the grounds of Risshakuji Temple are bathed in light.

 

Highlights:

From October 29 (Sunday) to November 5 (Sunday) in 2023, the “Hosyu-san Illumination” event will take place. However, as entry to Risshakuji Temple is prohibited at night, it is recommended to appreciate the illuminated structures within the temple grounds from the shopping street and Basho Memorial Museum in the nearby town.
