Yamagata Hanagasa Festival 2025
The Yamagata Hanagasa Festival is a signature summer event held in Yamagata City. It takes place over three days, from August 5 to 7 each year. The parade route starts in front of the Bunshokan (Yamagata Prefectural Museum) and proceeds southwest along Prefectural Route 19 (Yamagata-Yamadera Line) and National Route 112 (including Nanokamachi Shopping Street).
Participants wear traditional outfits and dance while twirling hanagasa (flower-decorated straw hats), creating a vibrant and colorful atmosphere. The streets are lined with spectators, making it one of the most beloved summer festivals in the region.
