Yamanami Highway Autumn leaves when 2024
Yamanami Highway, also known as Prefectural Route 11, offers stunning autumn foliage from mid-October to early November. Connecting Beppu and Aso, this highway reaches its highest point at 1,330 meters at the Makinoto Pass.
Makinoto Pass is the trailhead to Mount Kuju, and from its observation deck, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Kuju mountain range and Chojagahara, among other picturesque landscapes.
The autumn foliage along the Yamami Highway is particularly renowned for its beauty. While the highway used to be a toll road in the past, it is now a toll-free drive highway, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenic drive without any cost.
