Yotaka Andon Festival 2025
The festival dates back about 350 years to 1653 (the 2nd year of Shōō era) in the Tonami village of Etchū Province.
The procession was carrying a divine spirit from Ise Shrine to be the guardian deity of Fukuno Village. When the group reached Kurikara Pass, the border between Kaga and Etchū provinces, night fell, making further travel impossible.
Upon hearing this, villagers rushed to the pass carrying lanterns (andon) to warmly welcome the procession, which became the origin of the festival passed down through generations.
