YUWAKU ONSEN BONBORI FESTIVAL 2024
湯涌ぼんぼり祭り (Yubuchi Bonbori Matsuri) is an annual event held in October (Kannazuki). In 2023, it took place on October 21st.
The festival serves the purpose of creating signposts to ensure that the various deities traveling to Izumo in the month of Kannazuki don’t get lost on their way. As a gesture of gratitude, female deities, represented by young girls, carry nozomi-fuda (wish plaques) containing the wishes of people to the myriad deities in Izumo.
The 11th Yubuchi Bonbori Matsuri was held in Yubuchi Onsen, modeled after the anime “Hanasaku Iroha.” This year, approximately 3,000 people (as reported by the organizers), twice the number from the previous year, attended the festival from all over the country. This increase might be attributed to the event taking place in accordance with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
