Hidaka Fire Prevention Festival 2026

This is a splendid festival modeled after Kyoto’s Gion Festival. Gorgeous and elaborate Hayashi floats parade through the town. Each of the nine neighborhood groups presents three types of floats: the Machi-jirushi (town emblem float), Uchibayashi (musical performance float), and the Hayashi float (festival music float).
However, the Ekimae Sanchō Group, Jōnai Group, and Yoshikōji Group—being groups that joined after the Meiji era—participate only with the Hayashi float and do not carry the Machi-jirushi or Uchibayashi.
The Machi-jirushi is a float that displays a single kanji character symbolizing the town along with its name, decorated with items such as wells, horsehair curtains, fireballs, and ladles, and it leads each group’s procession.
During the Edo period, the lord of Mizusawa Castle granted the six towns under the castle the following kanji characters:
