The Fujisaki Hachimangu Autumn Grand Festival 2026
The Fujisaki Hachimangu Autumn Grand Festival is the annual festival of Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine, located in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The festival’s events are held over five days, concluding on the third Monday of September (Respect for the Aged Day). The highlight of the festival is the Shinko procession held on the final day. Particularly captivating for spectators are the dedication parades of the zuibyo (shrine guards) and the decorative horses that accompany the portable shrine. In recent years, more than 60 groups have participated, marching energetically through Kumamoto City to the chants of “Dokai, Dokai,” accompanied by trumpets and other musical instruments.
