AZABU JUBAN SUMMER NIGHT FESTIVAL 2024

The Azabu Juban Noryo Festival (AZABU JUBAN SUMMER NIGHT FESTIVAL) is a summer festival organized by the Azabu Juban Shopping Street Promotion Association. It was traditionally held for three days in mid-August (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) in the Azabu Juban shopping street, located in Tokyo’s Minato Ward. However, in 2012 and 2013, the festival was reduced to a two-day event held in late August on Saturday and Sunday.

Overview: During these three days, the usually quiet Azabu Juban shopping street becomes lively and bustling. In recent years, there has been a reduction in the festival’s scale, with the exclusion of external stalls such as shooting ranges. In the past, when the Johnny’s talent agency had a training facility nearby, Junior idols held small concerts on the festival’s floats for one day. Originally a festival centered around local residents, it gained popularity as an international bazaar organized by nearby embassies drew attention. The festival also garnered interest due to its association with Sailor Moon, as the area served as the backdrop for the series. With the opening of the Oedo Line and Namboku Line in 2000 and the unveiling of Roppongi Hills, the festival saw an increase in visitors from distant areas. This led to a crowded atmosphere, quite different from the traditional local summer festival, resulting in a decline in local residents’ participation.

Additionally, every year, numerous volunteers engage in tasks such as garbage sorting and collection during the festival.
