Harajuku Omotesando Genki Matsuri Super Yosakoi 2024
The “Harajuku Omotesando Genki Matsuri Super Yosakoi” is one of the Yosakoi-style festivals held annually in Harajuku, Tokyo, starting from 2001. It aims to promote solidarity and recovery for the Harajuku regional shopping districts.
Overview
Initiated in 2001 with the goal of promoting solidarity and recovery for the Harajuku regional shopping districts, this festival has been held every year. It takes place over two days on the last Saturday and Sunday of August, with venues including Meiji Shrine, Harajuku Station, Yoyogi Park, and Omotesando in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo. Organized by the Harajuku Shopping District Promotion Association (Keyakikai) with special cooperation from Meiji Shrine, the festival has received guidance from staff involved in the Yosakoi festival in Kochi Prefecture since its inception. Approximately 10 teams from Kochi participate in the event each year. Serving as an opportunity to experience the authentic Yosakoi festival from Kochi in Tokyo, the event attracted around one million spectators in its fifth year in 2005.
In the 2018 edition, a record-breaking 108 teams and 6,300 participants (including those from overseas) took part in the festival. There is also a product exhibition and PR booths for Kochi Prefecture set up in front of the Yoyogi Park Stage.
