Kinchida Manjushage Festival: Higanbana at its best 2024

The landscape known as “Kinchaku-da” in the city of Hidaka has been formed over many years by the meandering flow of the clear stream, Komagawa, which runs through the area. The name “Kinchaku-da” comes from the shape created by the river’s meandering, resembling the form of a traditional Japanese pouch called “kinchaku.”

Surrounded by the river with a diameter of approximately 500 meters and an area of about 22 hectares, the flat terrain is adorned with blooming flowers such as rapeseed flowers and cosmos. Particularly notable is the area’s extensive growth of red spider lilies (manjushage) in the autumn, covering the entire area in a vivid crimson hue, creating a scene reminiscent of a red carpet. Every year, numerous visitors are drawn to the beauty of this landscape, making it a popular destination.
