Lake Biwa Great Fireworks Festival 2025
The Lake Biwa Great Fireworks Festival is a summer event held annually around August 8 near Otsu Port in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
Overview
Since the fireworks are launched over Lake Biwa, unique displays such as underwater starmines (lake-surface explosions) are a major highlight (shell sizes range from 3 to 10). Each year features a different program, and in the past, themed fireworks like Pokémon have been presented. One of the most spectacular features is the wide starmine that includes large 10-shaku shells launched from mortars angled up to 30 degrees.
