Morioka Dashi 2024 (Morioka Autumn Festival)

The float procession event of the Morioka Hachimangu Shrine Festival, designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property in Morioka City, is said to have originated on September 14, 1709 (Hoei 6), to celebrate the completion of town construction by the Nanbu Clan. In commemoration of this achievement, young men and townspeople from all over the town dedicated unique town symbols called “choujirushi” (town emblems or crests, representing the symbols of firefighting and autonomous organizations in each town) to the Morioka Hachimangu Shrine. Over the course of three days, they paraded through the main streets of the castle town.

In preparation for this festival, each neighborhood starts building floats and practicing drum performances shortly after the Bon Festival. During the festival, floats proceed one after another around the shrine area, accompanied by the lively sounds of drums and traditional folk music, creating a festive atmosphere in the town.
