“I thought I was just ordinary. That was until I discovered rowing.” The expansive blue sky and sea seem to stretch on forever. Today, Mito High School held a class match in rowing. Etsuko Murakami, a second-year student rowing in the race, is sure she will lose and stops rowing.

She hasn’t found anything she’s passionate about. Her life consists of a monotonous routine between home and school. One day, a transfer student named Riina joins Etsuko’s class. Riina, who had watched the class match from the beach, fervently tells Etsuko, whom she just met, that she wants to join the rowing club, even though the club had been disbanded.

With the help of Etsuko’s childhood friend Hime, they revive the rowing club. Taeko and Mayumi, also in the same grade, join as well. Although Etsuko initially lends her name to the club without much commitment, she ends up taking part in rowing, and the five beginners begin their intense training.

After facing a crushing defeat in the tournament preliminaries, the rowing club realizes their current level and resolves to win next time. As the five who once felt disconnected begin to unite, their intense and passionate days kick off.

This fall, a new masterpiece of an animated film will capture the hearts of audiences across Japan with its inspiring tale of youth.
