Movie Mononokai Karakasa ~ 2024

The inner sanctum of the palace, known as “Ooku,” is a special place that serves as both a sanctuary for women and a vital bureaucratic institution. Here, new maids Asa (Tomoyo Kurosawa) and Kame (Aoi Yuki) set foot in this enigmatic domain. Asa is an ambitious and intelligent young woman looking to advance her career, while Kame seeks to find her place in the prestigious Ooku.

Despite their contrasting personalities, they are both subjected to an initiation ceremony on their first day, designed to integrate them into the collective. The senior matron, Uta Yama (Mami Koyama), oversees the maids with the goal of maintaining the prosperity and longevity of Ooku, yet she hides something behind her stoic demeanor. As time passes, a mysterious presence begins to shroud the women.

A tragic event ultimately unfolds, leading the Medicine Seller (Hiroshi Kamiya) to venture into the heart of Ooku in pursuit of a Mononoke. To exorcise the Mononoke, the Medicine Seller must wield the exorcist sword, which requires the convergence of three aspects: “Form,” “Truth,” and “Reason.” As the Medicine Seller uncovers the haunting yet poignant truth hidden within Ooku, the ritual of exorcism and redemption begins.
