Numata cho Youtaka andon masturi 2024
Yo-Taka Andon Festival Overview
The Yo-Taka Andon Festival, a graceful and spirited rice field festival, was introduced to Hokkaido from the hometown of the pioneer of development, Mr. Kizaburo Numata, in Oya District, Toyama Prefecture, in 1977. It is recognized as one of the three major Andon Festivals in Hokkaido and is the only one featuring the “Kenka Andon” or “Fighting Lanterns.”
The highlight of the festival is the spectacular collision between large Andon lanterns, standing at a towering height of 7 meters, stretching 12 meters in length, and weighing 5 tons each. This clash of colossal Andons captivates numerous tourists every year.
The festival unfolds over two days, typically on a Friday and Saturday in mid-August, painting a vivid and thrilling picture scroll across the town of Numata.
