Setagaya ku Tamagawa Fireworks Festival 2024
The Setagaya Tamagawa Fireworks Festival (Setagaya-ku Tamagawa Hanabi Taikai) and Kawasaki City Anniversary Tamagawa Fireworks Festival (Kawasaki-shi Seinen Kinen Tamagawa Hanabi Taikai) are fireworks festivals held along the Tama River, spanning Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward and Kawasaki City’s Takatsu Ward near the Futakobashi area (around Tokyu Denentoshi Line’s Futakotamagawa Station and Futako-Shinchi Station). Until 2017, these festivals were generally held on the third Saturday of August. However, following a lightning strike incident in 2017, the festivals were rescheduled to October from 2018 onwards, as October tends to have more stable weather.
Overview:
The Setagaya Tamagawa Fireworks Festival and Kawasaki City Anniversary Tamagawa Fireworks Festival are held in the Tama River riverside areas, primarily around Futakobashi along National Route 246 and Tokyu Denentoshi Line Tama River Bridge (in Setagaya Ward’s Tamagawa and Kamata areas and Takatsu Ward’s Suwa area).
While these two festivals are separate events, their venues are adjacent, and since 1994, they have been held on the same day (although from 2004 to 2006, only the Setagaya Ward side was suspended). Due to this proximity, residents in the surrounding areas often consider them as one joint event, known as “Futakotamagawa Fireworks Festival.” In practice, there is collaboration between both festivals, especially in terms of traffic control. The decision to change the timing of the festivals was also made through consultation between the two districts.
