Shirakawa Komine Castle Ruins Sakura When 2024
At the site of Shirakawa Komine Castle (Shirakawa City, Fukushima Prefecture), approximately 180 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom each year from mid to late April. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful collaboration between Komine Castle, stone walls, and cherry blossoms.
During the cherry blossom season, the “Shirakawa Komine Castle Sakura Festival” is held, featuring performances by the Kawagoe Clan’s matchlock gun and musket corps, a princess procession, and outdoor tea ceremonies. The festival in 2023 is scheduled to take place on April 16th (Sunday).
Shirakawa Komine Castle, a terraced castle completed by the first feudal lord of the Edo period, Niwa Nagamasa, is designated as a national historic site. The three-story turret and front gate have been reconstructed, becoming symbols of the city.
