Unkai Terrace When 2024
Hoshino Resorts Tomamu’s “Unkai Terrace” operates on a limited basis from spring to autumn. In 2024, it will be open from mid-June to mid-October, providing approximately a 40% chance of witnessing the sea of clouds during this period.
Situated at an elevation of 1,088 meters on Mount Tomamu, the Unkai Terrace is accessible via the Unkai Gondola, taking approximately 13 minutes for a one-way trip. Visitors can enjoy a close-up view of the dynamic sea of clouds flowing over the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range.
The sea of clouds is more likely to occur during seasons with significant temperature differences between day and night, such as in spring to early summer and autumn. Seasons with small daily temperature variations, like summer or winter, make it less conducive for the formation of the sea of clouds. The prime time for the sea of clouds is typically in the early morning, around 4 am to 7 am.
