Yosakoi Soran Festival 2024
In June, when Sapporo’s streets are bathed in fresh greenery, various locations across the city, with a focus on the prominent Odori Park, transform into stages!
The YOSAKOI Soran Festival originated in 1992, drawing inspiration from Kochi Prefecture’s “Yosakoi Festival” and blending it with Hokkaido’s folk song “Soran Bushi.” Dancers adorned in vibrant costumes, holding naruko (clappers) in hand, dynamically move to the melody of Soran Bushi. With their overflowing energy, the city becomes enveloped in the festive atmosphere.
Don’t miss the lively spectacle as the cityscape turns into a stage for the YOSAKOI Soran Festival!
What began with the 1st edition featuring 10 teams and 1,000 participants, drawing an audience of 200,000 people, has evolved into a grand festival. The YOSAKOI Soran Festival has expanded not only within Hokkaido but also nationwide and even internationally. Presently, approximately 270 teams with 27,000 participants and an audience of around 2 million people come together to celebrate this festival.
The joy of the festival transcends age, occupation, and social status, creating a shared feeling of enjoyment among all. The festival’s reach extends beyond regional and generational boundaries, creating a wide circle of celebration.
As the YOSAKOI Soran Festival looks ahead, it continues to aim at delivering “inspiration and energy” to people and communities.
