Aizu Tajima Gion Festival 2026
The Aizu Tajima Gion Festival is a traditional festival held from July 22 to 24 in Tajima, Minamiaizu Town, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture. It is the festival of Taide Ukaga Shrine and Kumano Shrine (the Gion Festival of Taide Ukaga Shrine and the annual festival of Kumano Shrine).
The festival is carried out under a distinctive organizational system called “Otōya”, and is regarded as one of the Three Great Gion Festivals of Japan, alongside Kyoto’s Gion Festival at Yasaka Shrine and the Hakata Gion Yamakasa of Kushida Shrine in Fukuoka.
On January 21, 1981, the Otōya rituals of the Tajima Gion Festival were designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
