Hirosaki Neputa Festival 2026

The Hirosaki Neputa Festival (Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri) is a nebuta-style lantern float festival held in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture.
Together with the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, the Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival, and the Hirosaki Castle Snow Lantern Festival, it is regarded as one of the “Four Great Festivals of Hirosaki.”
Large numbers of local citizens parade through the city pulling floats decorated with warrior paintings, while chanting “Yāyadō.”
The festival features two types of neputa floats: the fan-shaped ōgi neputa and the doll-shaped kumi neputa. In total, about 80 floats— the largest number in Aomori Prefecture—take part in the procession.
