Numata Town Yotaka Andon Festival 2026

The festival features more than 20 large and small Yotaka lantern floats, each combining elements such as parade floats, Dengaku (also called Rengaku), and hanging lanterns. The large lanterns measure about 7 meters in height, 12 meters in length, and 3 meters in width. These lanterns parade through the streets over two days, and at night, collisions known as Kenka Andon (“fighting lanterns”) take place. A Yotaka Andon contest is also held to judge the craftsmanship of the Yotaka lanterns and hanging lanterns.
On both nights, large lantern collision battles take place. Two opposing massive lantern floats crash into each other with loud impact, aiming to destroy the hanging lantern attached to the front of the opponent’s float. Since teams must battle multiple opponents, they prepare more than 15 hanging lanterns for replacement.
