Ever since the fall of the Kamakura shogunate in Genkō 3 (1333),
the center of political power in Japan has been passed around between Kyoto and Edo,
leaving the warriors of Kamakura to endure centuries of “thoroughly unamusing days.”
A glance at any history textbook makes it obvious: after the Muromachi period,
the word “Kamakura” hardly even appears.
Yet, if they were to simply give up on returning to the stage of history,
the proud name of “Kamakura warriors” would be disgraced
(even if the samurai system has long since been abolished).
Thus—determined to reclaim power, to endure hardship, to rise again,
and perhaps even to conquer the world—
they began strengthening their firepower.
