Tokyo Big Sight: SUPER COMIC CITY 31

“Comic City” is a doujinshi (self-published works) sales event organized by Akaboo News Agency (Kei Corporation). It was formerly co-hosted by multiple doujinshi printing companies. The event takes place approximately 20 times a year in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka, with Osaka and Fukuoka hosting the largest-scale events. In Tokyo and Osaka, the majority of participating circles are those creating works targeted towards a female audience, for reasons mentioned later.

The organizing company, Kei Corporation, has a 30-year history as a dedicated organizer of corporate doujinshi sales events. Their theme is “Create books. Sell books. Buy books.” They aim to regularly supply manga doujinshi, which has limited distribution opportunities, and provide a space for mutual interaction among doujinshi creators.

In the past, events were held in various locations, but in recent years, the focus has been on medium to large-scale events in the three cities of Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka. They coexist with other all-genre events like Comic Live, organized by Studio YOU.

In recent years, they have also organized themed-only events such as the “ZR Series (National Tournament)” and “Gijinka Kingdom.”

Since around the summer of 2016, they have planned concurrent events within “Comic City,” incorporating simultaneous-only events. On the same day, dozens of title-specific-only events are held. They actively engage in organizing sub-events within the main event, referred to as “Petit Only.”

Depending on the event, the number of spaces available for participants can range from 13,000 to 20,000, surpassing Comic Market in terms of daily space availability.

Both circle participation and general attendance prohibit the entry of preschool children. The official website lists guidelines for participants and attendees, including restrictions on overnight activities and entry before 7:00 AM.
