Kagoshima with


Yakushima receives a lot of rainfall all year long due to its subtropical location and mountains that are almost 2000 meters high; according to a local saying, it rains "35 days a month." Even if they might be exaggerating, it does rain occasionally virtually every day, especially in the mountainous interior. The rain can also be light and just last for a few minutes. So please prepare rain coat!

Yakushima is just 60 kilometers from Kagoshima's southern edge and is reachable by ferry or plane. Take a flight from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to Kagoshima Airport. It takes less than two hours to travel. A quick 40-minute connection flight will get you to Yakushima from there. Take a ferry from Kagoshima Port to Yakushima Miyanoura or Anobo Port as an alternative. The speed boat takes two and a half hours, while the traditional, less expensive car ferry takes four hours.

*Make sure to rent the hiking equipment for your safety* The courses of hiking have 3 courses consist of 2 hours, 3 hours, and 4 hours courses. Different courses goes different ways so if you want to explore all of it you should take it all!
  Yakushima Island itself is included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its natural surroundings. You must have a keen eye if the gorge makes you think of the world from Studio Ghibli's "Princess Mononoke." Shiratani Unsuikyo served as the model for several scenes in the movie, and director Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli made multiple trips there while making the movie. Shiratani Unsuikyo is a place that will be memorable for both Studio Ghibli and natural lovers!

Yakusugi Land


*Make sure to rent the hiking equipment for your safety* Several enormous Yakusugi cedar trees can be seen while taking in the forest's natural beauty. A mixed forest with many broad-leaved trees can be found on Yakusugi land. It  is home to numerous notable and distinctive yakusugi cedar trees, some of which have unique names like Buddhasugi. The park offers 30, 50, 80, 150, and 210-minute course options in addition to five well-maintained hiking paths.
