Miyazaki City is not well known abroad, but it is a very attractive city. As there are many specialties of Miyazaki, there are more things to enjoy with nature. I strongly recommend Miyazaki City if you want to enjoy a quiet atmosphere when traveling in the same Kyushu region.

As you can see on the map, Miyazaki City's tourist attractions are spreading a lot. Therefore, it is recommended to take a private car, taxi, etc. rather than public transportation. And if you visit islands such as Aoshima, I think it's better to make a reservation in advance.

Aoshima

Aoshima is a small island with a circumference of about 1.5 km. Aoshima Shrine is located in the center of the island. The strange wavelike rocks that surround the island are the highlight here. They look like giant washboards, so they are called "Washboards of Demons." They have been designated national natural monuments. More than 200 types of plant (e.g., subtropical plants) grow on the island. And this is the island that became the background of an animation called Hanasaku Iro. It is not the main part of the animation, but I think it will be very impressive where the scene of the school trip appeared.

Sun Messe Nichinan


This is a park symbolized by seven moai statues restored with permission from Easter Island - a unique sight in the world. The sight of the moai statues lined up against a background of the blue sky and the majestic Pacific Ocean is stunning. You can see an insect exhibition that is rare in the world, UNESCO World Heritage exhibition panels and artworks.

Miyazaki City's food

It is famous for its chicken, so it is famous for its good taste of eggs and chicken. The local food called Chicken Nanban is also famous, and Maruman Yakidori, a dish grilled over charcoal, is also famous. Since there are many fruits such as melons and mangoes, processed foods using them are developed, and a bright yellow tangerine called Hyupnats is also a special product in summer. Miyazaki beef, chosen for its high-quality meat, is the tastiest in Japan. It is characterized by a moderate amount of fat and a tender meat quality. The city is home to many restaurants which only handle Miyazaki beef.
